kobblers
Now and again when I try to engrave glass the rotating diamond cutter doesn't 'bite' into the surface and I have to keep going over the letters until it bites. I've just engraved an ordinary glass tankard and I kid you not it took me over 30 passes to get the first letter to engrave I'm using the same lube I've used for years and the cutter is relatively new. Ideas anyone? Cheers, Rick.
Gray
Sounds like a duff cutter Rick if you have all your settings right and you are using the right cutter. It does happen. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7539&hilit=glass+engraving The dwell is quite important to give the cutter time to dig in.

kobblers
Cheers guys, I'll order a new un It may seem like an obvious and daft question but with diamond being such a hard material I have to ask if it matters that I've used this cutter for surface engraving metal too? Gray
I'd just keep one for glass Rick. I tend to keep my cutters separate, 1 for glass, http://www.u-marq.com/product.php/1080/ ... g_diamonds 0.03..........1 for fancy stuff,...1 old one for dogs dicks .....discs.. .. with the motor on and 1 for trophy plates. Oh and I are be mostly using Mr Sheen as a glass lube.

ANDY
if the diamond is new, new.....send it back for a replacement if it's kinda new but not really that new, use it for your every day stuff instead keep your glass diamond seperate and use only for glass, dip the end in some red paint so you dont get it mixed up i also keep a rubber cap on mine. dont know why

Gray
Confession time...............I actually engraved a small salver once with the diamond upside down,(I'd left my glasses at home) fortunately it had a little pointy bit on the top and it engraved OK...
