Lee
just thought I'd give you an update on this modification. After getting used to not peddling The kit has proved very good. However on thicker jobs I found initial uptake & running slowly induced a bit of spin on belt, which I tightened right up. I had to give the machine a nudge on the hand wheel to get it running from time to time (not on run of the mile stuff, just heavier jobs) by tightening the belt up, it meant when you do turn the handle (perhaps to raise the needle to its highest point) your working against the motor so it became heavy to use. So this week I've been tinkering & modified it a bit! My conversion is now chain driven with a free wheeling hub on the motor! \:D/ Net result. 1. No belt slippage 2. I can run it as slow as you like! 3. If I do use the hand wheel, the free wheeling hub disengages the motor & its now lighter than when I had the treadle! Lee
how did you explain to the kids why their bike wont peddle? I didn't need to, they could see the wheel was missing. Besides we live in a world of creativity! this lot landed on the table over the weekend! Note the beam engine complete with 2 cylinders in the foreground & the lego lemonade bottle complete with label to the left. Not quite sure what the thing is in the back ground but it touches the ceiling & makes lots of noise. the two questions I didn't ask to this one was 1. what does that do & 2. how exactly did you get to the top! Taking the centre out of a perfectly good bike wheel is a drop in the ocean in our mad lives!

petercoulson
I believe they helped him remove the screw. Anyway, this is great fun but could we change the topic name now as although some of my repairs are with a hammer there isn't much left in this topic related to its title. Thanks Stu for the bump attempt.
