rhian
My boots are badly scratched with fairly deep scratches to the leather, does anyone have any advice about getting it repaired, or making it look better? StevenB
So, to get back on topic On topic? That would be a first... Do the scratches go right through the leather, to an extent that it would need patching, or is it just a case of needing cosmetic treatment, such as a good renovating polish? kobblers
Somewhere in between Steven. The scratches are deep enough to need filling first. What's your answer then Keith? Rick.
rhian
yes the scratches in the leather are fairly deep, they arent improved at all with polish, which is what the guy in my local shoe repair shop tried. the scratches dont go right through though, the leather is fairly thick. and yes, i m a girl
Gray
The colour is the problem, scratches like that could be filled with wax. Here is an option for you dye them black and get your local cobbler to fill in the scratches.
keithm
I would be inclined to use a polish with a high colour content and then have a go at flattening the leather, but the first port of call should be your local cobbler A GIRL Ooops, sorry, apologies sent Keith
rhian
how permanent would that be though? i mean, would the wax wear away over time and leave me with black boots with scratches in them?
Gray
Ever seen soldiers boots? Just keep building the wax up. A good spirit dye will be permanent. Bloody hell Keith how many blokes do you know called Rhian?
rhian
yes my husband is in the army lol he says layering them up with polish and wax would spoil the look of the boots. i was hoping to keep them as close to the way they look now if thats at all possible.
