Gray
Just had a customer with a riding boot and a pair of shoes covered in shite. (the footwear not the customer) Before he even asked me what he needed doing to them I told him I wasn't touching them and could he please take them away and clean them. WTF do they think we are? He seemed a bit put out. Said he'll go somewhere else. GOOD. Maybe i've just become a grumpy old man?
Lee
If I can manage the repair with out touching it I take it on, then Enjoy working round it, polishing everything in site except the "target" Highlighting the need to clean them. If the customer comments its a firm "sorry clean them youself" Lee
Michael
Horse shite I don't mind as long as it's not absolutely caked in it...but dog shite is a definite no no. Not only cos it stinks but it's a health hazard. If the shoes even smell of it I will refuse to touch them. I have a mate who is blind in eye after getting dog mess on his when he was a kid :-& :-& The other one I hate is chewing gum :-& I once had a women bring her shoe in on a Saturday morning, asking me to fix the heel on that had come off the night before in the pub. Rather than go home she got a couple of pieces of gum, chewed them up and put them under the stilleto block, thinking it would fix it... Told her I would repair it after she had cleaned all the gum out.
Gray
I don't need to handle any sort of shite. It's not a big deal to clean it off before you take your shoes in to be repaired now is it. As it happens it was horse shite and I think the guy had been rolling about in the stuff. Happy Dude
i had a woman come into the shop and hand over a pair with a big lump of dried dog shite on the sole, you now the thing, spread up onto the upper... :-& i asked her to take them away and clean them before i would handle them, she said it was MY job to scrape it off before i started the job, when i refused she pulled an fingernail emery board out her bag and proceeded to start to scrape it off onto my carpet... what a cow... when i asked to stop and asked if she would scrape shit off onto her livingroom carpet she freaked and told me to f... off and stomped out, the other customers behind her were agog...
