chas47
Hi, brand new to engraving so any advise appreciated. I have just started to use the Gravograph M20. I am OK with flat items, but the curved stuff has got me. I thought that the machine cutter would follow the gentle curve, but it falls away and does not engrave the lower part of the curve on such items as compacts, trinket boxes and curved key rings. Thanks.
Guest Irishcobbler
Not used that machine, we have Roalnd EGX350 which is designed to mainly do flat objects but can do slight curves on objects you mentioned. This is done by selecting the individual vector in your software packagee.g the D in David and making the depth of engraving slightly deeper than the rest assuming you are engraving the word around the curve. Otherwise if its a pen then just have to engrave fairly deep in maybe 2 or 3 passes. Hope this helps.
janner
Don't know the machine. A spring loaded cutter knob that gives about 5 mm on depth may be all that is required. Or can you output sections at time, resetting Z depth accordingly.
west
Hi there! You will need to set the surface to the lowest part you are going to engrave i.e the outside of the trinket box. Then you must set your safety height (lift) to greater than your highest point i.e. the centre of your trinket box. This way all of the text will be engraved - only 1 snag - as the cutter moves to the highest point the Z (cutter) pressure will increase. If this is a problem you may have to purchase a fairy touch which is a devise that fits in the top of your spindle and allows you to set the pressure of the cutter. If you need one - contact Pantograph Services (0113 249 6161) or Gravograph direct.
