Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
ascap29 has got a good idea there for you with the counter display board within the blue squares. 1 little niggle, you old unit although rather dated looked very busy with merchandise, your new one does not seem to have the stock, is it early days and will be filled or are you cutting down on sundries. Surpising what a change of wood can do for an image, would like to see an updated shot or two in a couple ofmonths time if possible. Congratulations on the hard work bring your shop into the limelight.

Michael
ascap29 has got a good idea there for you with the counter display board within the blue squares.1 little niggle, you old unit although rather dated looked very busy with merchandise, your new one does not seem to have the stock, is it early days and will be filled or are you cutting down on sundries. I have now done as ascap29 has suggested and put my wheelie bin numbers in the squares...they fit perfect, cheers. I thought the old unit was too busy.People coming in and asking "have you got....?" and it was in front of them,so I thought I would go for the minimal look. I am going to swap sundries about and just put out what sells most.Even now I still keep finding more things to put out but I don't want to overcrowd the shop again. I'll post some more pictures in a couple of weeks when I've ordered some slat shelving to put some more bits out. Is it just me or is anyone else having really pour sundry sales.Laces, insoles and polishes going really slow!

Lee
My belief is that the younger generation just dont bother with clean tidy shoes and dont know how to clean them anyway. That may be for the majority, But some of the "younger Generation" spend a lot of money on there image and a lot on shoes. I sell as much shoe care to this generation as any other. Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
There are the "Odd" few of the younger ones but very much in the minority. Probably out shopping for their Grandparents Lee. Exception is in affluent areas where there is a high proportion of young businessmen and young company reps who have to keep up appearances. Jordan Broughall
On 6/14/2007 at 12:43 AM, Perplexus said: Very nice refit, michael26uk! I was interested to see that you have adopted the name 'Quick Service Shoe Repairs' . . . this brought on a flood of nostalgia for me. My great-uncle, W H Broughall, founded a chain of shoe repair shops in the East Anglia region in the 1930s, and his shops were all called 'Quick Service Shoe Repairs', although I believe the parent company was called W H Broughall Ltd. I think his 'empire' may have extended to about fifty shops at its peak. My father managed a number of these shops during his shoe-repairing career, in Great Yarmouth, Ipswich, Luton, Letchworth and Peterborough, and my uncle was an area manager for the company for many years. Both eventually moved on to establish their own businesses, and I believe the W H Broughall company was taken over by, or absorbed into, a larger chain (possibly Timpsons?) in the early 1970s. Walter Broughall was my first childhood experience of a 'rich' man, and I remember that whenever I met him, he he would give me a half-crown (12½p), which was about six weeks' pocket money! I'd be interested to know if any other forum-dwellers have memories of Quick Service Shoe Repairs. Anyway . . . I hope the name serves you as well as it served Great-Uncle Walter! Hello to you sir, i have just been doing some family research as my dad has just recieved a load of photos etc after his mother died who was the wife of Herbert Broughall who took over the shoe company W.H Broughall LTD from his father William Broughall. Unfortunately i never met Herbert because he died at the young age of 36 and have just seen pics of him today for the first time ever. My father never really spoke about his dad and nore did he really speak to his mum much either, so the information i have on the family history is very scarce. However any information regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated. By the sounds of it, youre great uncle was my great grandfather :). Please excuse my poor grammar but in 1996 we emigrated to Hamburg Germany and i have been here ever since, hence the poor English :) Best regards Jordan Broughall P.S my Email Adress is jb23@gmx.net hibsjo(SCO)
Elizabeth Marshall
I’m looking up information on my grandfather Walter Herbert Broughall and found a post on this site! I remember as a child burning leather off cuts on the fire from the bends he used to make soles. We were quite poor in those days. We lived next door to my grandfather and he helped me save by doubling everything I Put in my Post Office book. My three uncles and my Mother all worked in the shoe repair business. Yes, there were over 70 shops which were sold to Timpson
