Lee
Just a bottle of wine from C/B all that money you spend with these companies, and you get a calendar and a bottle of wine Still at least Birch's have put some Christmas spirit on the dinner table! Lee
I was always told by my Dad (in Business himself) always offer a rep a cuppa, it will keep them coming back. I have about 1/2 Dozen reps who call. Not to many but it helps keep my ear to the ground. Its sometimes benefical for doing deals etc. if they like you they will often do the best they can for you (not many like me though! ) Usually reps are prearranged or expected. So I tend to arrange work around expecting them. When you work on your own, its the chance to have a chat about trade. Lee
ironplanet uk900
I know what you mean, but they always seem to come when your busy I only have about 3 reps who call, but if I'm busy they have to wait
AD 1992
i got the usual calender and cheap bottle of wine.go back 5 or 6 years i used to get a decent bottle of malt whiskey.when you consider what we spend over the year with these companies a £2.99 bottle of plonk as a thank you is i think a bit of an insult.anyway at least thats the neighbours prezzie sorted! as for reps calling i only get a couple in these days,i mainly deal over the phone. StevenB
I'm surprised to hear about getting bottles of wine! I've only ever had a calendar off any of the reps who've caled on me over the years.

'Onest Andy
In my case the best gift I ever had was a little tool for tightening the needle guide on my outsole machine... I remember ordering the tool... a small T bar tool like a small spark plug spanneonly with a square hole in the end. I was horrified when I received an invoice for the best part of £100 that was some 10 years or more ago. I sent the tool back deciding that I could have one made for far less than that . Oh his next trip round the rep that used to call casually placed one of these tools on the counter as he was about to leave and mentioned something about a ridiculous price.. I'm not going to say who he was or where he wrorked.. But it was definately a valuable gift to me in more ways than one.
Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
I would not mind betting that there are hundreds if not thousands of T-Bar spanners now sitting in retirement homes (personal toolboxes) without anyone knowing what it costs to replace them.!!! Just try to order one for the Needle bar or Awl nut, I had a shock 15 years ago and I've still not recovered. I have a full set that one day will make a fine xmas present for some lucky guy or guyess.

TITs
A tight pain in my chest and a dent in the bank balance is all I got from this industry this christmas, but hey we are only 6 mths old so maybe in 5 or ten years of hard work we might drive the turnover up to the point that gets us a "case of beer"
