Bronco78th
Hi All I've just had a customer call who wants a Bronze or Brass plaque engraved. Its to go on a a side of a boat so needs to be engraved deep, I'm likely going to pass it on, but I do get a few of these and have been meaning to see if I can engrave such items myself for awhile.....haven't got round to it. I have A U-marq CX5 and Suregrave Rotation S, what type of cutter would I need to do this kind or job going forward (both take 11/64 cutters)? I don't have one yet but intend to get a fibre laser at some point, could this be done with that? (cut a small layer out each time to get the depth)? On a side note if any of you would potentially like this job assuming I do pass it on drop me a line......ironically it was already passed on to me by another engraver who turned it down. Kind Regards, John
Gray
This is the way most of us do it. I'm surprised I remembered this post from 18 years ago.

Kind Regards, John How thick is the material? I've engraved some plates approx 1mm deep into 2mm brass sheet (and then paint infill like the above post) using my is200 Although I can't advise best practice on it - I always feel like my machine doesn't enjoy doing it, so perhaps not using the best feeds/speeds, and bit sharpness is important (I use a standard .25 conical bit) but it's certainly possible. I'll add some photos of jobs if I can find some later. You mention a fibre laser - I also intend to get myself a small one of those soon, but for really deep engraving I think you would need a higher wattage (closer to 100w) than the 20w entry level lasers (I'm considering a 20w Xtool f1 ultra)

lockdecoders
there is not much difference between 60 and 100w lasers so dont waste the extra money. This is exactly what fibre lasers are all about. The deeper you go the longer it takes, We sell a lot of 20 watt and i am absolutely sure ours will handle this with no issues.
