darren_glasgow
Hello all.Whilst engraving silver cups on my Rotation S,text appears to be very faint.Even going over it a couple of times makes little difference. On pewter and softer metals, the text is fine.Do I need a new diamond drag cutter and if so,what angle would be best for engraving silver cups.TIA
Auto Key Wizard
Faint in depth or line width? We use the following drag diamonds: 90 and 120 degrees general work 150 degrees for pewter/soft material
darren_glasgow
Thanks for the reply. Its the depth i'm referring to.Its barely scratching the surface.
Michael
Some of the nickel plated cups are quite hard and don't engrave well with a drag diamond. I usually use the same 120 degree diamond but use it with the spindle and set the feed rate to about 0.3m/min and the depth to 1.00mm, gives a deeper bright finish. BTW my machine is a Mastergrave Universal 280 so settings might be different!!
darren_glasgow
@Michael:do you mean having the cutter/spindle rotating?
Count Muppet
Sounds like the diamond has worn out

Auto Key Wizard
We get great results using a burnishing diamond with the spindle motor and light pressure (one pass only needed)
