grahamparker
Which is the best back press to get Rotary watch backs on. Rotary watches are causing us some real problems to get the back on, we are currently using a lever closing press with nylon dyes and it has worked ok for years but the last few months it is getting more and more difficult to get Rotary backs to close and not pop off. Lee
Robur case & glass press second to none, but costs around the £165.00 mark for the press & £225.00 for the dies. But its well worth the money.
Lee
And if you ever get something even a press doesn't quite cater for you can always make your own Die. As I did with this D&G with a curved glass (not domed). I made this to fit a new glass, but it can be flipped over for a case back. I've used it a couple of times since making it. 1. cover watch in cling film & buy some polymorph from Maplin. 2.warm polymorph as per instructions & push against watch & then lightly press to form a perfect shape. Note I pushed a nail into the mixture, this helps centre it with the crown when in use. 3. once hardened, clean up excess 4. use as you would any other die. 5. finally use a sharpie pen to label it up for furture reference, note I put the letter of the die I used to make it, makes using it quicker in future. stevecoco
You ask a question and you get a lesson, as usual brilliant Lee. I also find rotary watch backs a problem, very close tolerance watches, I always check the seal is ok first before closing with my rotary press.
