StevenB
Isn't this why we have wholesalers? Who would be responsible for ordering the stock? Who has the space to store bulk quantities of materials? And that's before we get onto packaging, distribution, billing etc. I could go on... Lets leave bulk selling to the wholesalers & we can concentrate on the retail side of things.
k4mrc
an idea for this would be either join MSA and let the MSA become the middle man, if enough join in and commit an amount of money each the MSA could then procced to get better rates than we could buy individually, but would also mean we pitch for the stock we are all after, imagine if we all wanted "Executive Leather" off of birch, then the prices that we all normally pay, this could be with our normal rated discounts taken off, the MSA could negotiate a further 10 or 15 percent off - but then we pay the monies into the pot and receive the quantities we pay for. That way I might take say 500 pairs, others could take 200 others 1000 - this could be taken round all the suppliers and if we attacked each material we want in bulk i;e Keys, Engraving materials etc, the only problem I see is I might want one material and everyone else a different one, principal could work. Over to you,. Carry on.
hibsjo(SCO)
i get a fair price from my suppliers just now to squeeze them for another 10-15% on what i already receive would be cheeky to say the least(plus they then might look at selling to the public via websites to pay for the increase in discount) why should i subsidise the guy whos buying 10 pair when im buying a thousand? I think you have to do your homework there is no point in paying £XX from one supplier when another could offer you the same at £xx less we all want our goods cheaper but everyone has to make a living the idea in theory is good but in practice unworkable imho carry on! It will always happen and will happen - it is a dog eat dog world and will only get bigger
chrisorros
So just a thought club together get better deals any takers???? I've tried doing this twice already on this site. I've only had one person ever show any interest. When i placed my work e-mail on as a contact. Had many people say it wouldn't work straight away, but i do this with my locksmith side of the bussiness & it works. Not all the time & i don't always buy this way as sometimes i do not wish to have the product people are talking about or fully stock of that item. By doing something like this doesn't mean you have to buy products that you do not want. Your not tied in to buy into all the deals. Also some deals you are interested in don't come off as not enough people are interested to get the numbers needed for the price. This is my personal opinion. Some people on this site & the site itself have a vested interest with some of the surpliers, & by having this will discourage any talk on the matter. I'll reliterate this is my opinion. k4mrc
MSA have enough problems running themselves, let alone running a Co-operative on your behalf! Yes, but my thinking was to make them even busier and solve some of them.
Alan
Perhaps a supplier or forum sponsor could make an offer as a 'forum special' with a limited time offer or not, provided they achieved a minimum quantity of orders.
