Glass Engraving - Guides

Recommended Posts

I have a glass engraving tool and have engraved glassware, but I don't seem to get a great finish. Does anyone recomend using a nib depth guide?

I find to engrave glass I have to put alot of pressure down in nib which chips the edges of lettering.

I have a Gravograph is400

Thanks

Dave

you should need very little pressure on glass, most use a feather touch attachment or equivalent. the diamond should be a rotating one, not the one you use on metal & you should lubricate the surface of the work with polish. :D

& wear goggles when doing fizzy pop bottles (in case keiths reading)

Always use goggles or glasses when engraving with the motor on  Better safe than sorry :D

thanks to you all.

So I will set x & y speed on 3m/s which is my slowest

What would I set spindle RPM to ?

Also Lee, sorry but what is a feather touch attachment? I have researched Gravograph and they have a teflon swivel nose, but I am just unsure if this is what I need.

And finally (yes I promise) what sort of polish do you recomend to lubricate?

Again thanks.Sad to say I have learnt more in a few emails than I did off Gra******* Australia when they delivered my new machine.

I have to engrave glass tomorrow. So will put all in place, I just don't have the light touch guide but will be ordering.

Awesome
