CotswoldEngraver
Hi Guys Need some advise from our resident vectorising experts! A customer sends me a .ai or .eps file for their logo etc. I sometimes cannot open the file or it will not import properly, what settings in the file do they need to include when sending the file? just spent 1/2 hour getting an ai file to open properly in the software and its really annoying as I told the customer there wouldnt be a set up charge if they send it as that so I can just import it straight in! Using vistool

CotswoldEngraver
cheers gray, tried that to start with but its just a mess of lines where I guess its drawing the paths too. looks like a spider has been painting with his feet on the screen! it imports ok but the end product takes me for ever to tidy it up for engraving. so was wondering what settings I can tell the customer to save it with. StevenB
I thought it was just me! I can never seem to get .eps files to work properly. I tend to stick to using regular picture formate (jpeg, tiff, wmf) and working from those instead.
StevenB
n.b. Another trick I have used is to open the .eps in photoshop, convert it to one of the aforementioned file types & import that instead.

Michael
Opened it in Illustrator and saved as .ai and .eps files. Both imported the central logo but not the writing, can always add that after no problems.
petercoulson
If this helps, .ai and .eps are always a problem in Corel Draw as well. Sometimes you import sometimes you open and it may work sometimes not. What I have found is there appears to be differences in versions depending on what software the other person has used so although your file says .eps if it has been done on corel draw 11 it doesn't necessarily work in corel draw 9. Whether you can have different versions of .eps not sure but get exactly the same issues with brandsoftheworld. Perhaps this is the same with Vistool. Another thing, you may tell your customers .ai or .eps but this is only good if they are vecotrised logos to start with, saving a jpeg to eps will give you an eps file but absolutely no good for engraving with.
