x minit uk
A woman comes in with 2 keys, 1 rim mortice and 1 pipe cabinet. You cut these keys and off she goes. Next day another woman comes in with the 2 keys you cut and says, ' we had these keys cut and they don't work, could I have a refund please' I say, can I see the originals please to compare, to which she says no, my boss has just sent me for a refund. So I ask her who is her boss and she says oh its ^^%$£"£ owner of ^%$%$£ security. which just happens to be a locksmith shop down the road that cuts keys. I give her the keys back and tell her to bring the originals in. I am now awaiting their response. Seems like a strange thing to do to me.
StevenB
On the odd occasion that I've had a similar experience, I've always said that we don't give a refund without re-cutting them at least once. Only once can I remember that I wasn't able to achieve this, and it turned out to be easier to just give a refund than argue for the sake of an argument. I wasn't entirely happy about it, but it's better to get on with earning money than having a row with a punter. Having said that, it wasn't a key cut for a competitor of mine... In this instance, I'd hold out for the originals to come back if I were you.
Michael
I would have done the same, and if they still don't work do the same again, and if they theyr're still not right I will ask to see the lock if possible.Refunds are a last resort. Not just to be awkward but to see where things could be going wrong for future reference. kirkybob
I dont like giving refunds on key cuts, if somthing is going wrong I want to know what so i can put it right. I find that most customers are happy with this once exzplained to them. At the end of the day what thay want is a key that works.
key cabin
Once again ,no refund. I have had instances like this before only to find out that the bolt thrower on the lock is wearing thin, now i could have stood there all day cutting keys for the lock but none of them would have worked. Always try to find out why the keys are not working first, it may be that it isnt your fault in the first place. I always try to cut an original key rarther than a secondry cut key, that way you know that your keys will work.
keithm
I used to hate that customer that complained about the new keys, only to find that the original key was a problem in the first place But they only tell you that afterwards 'But you asked me to copy your keys' 'Yes, but I thought that the new ones would work better' 'From a copy? Lee
although the back story sounds fishy! with a local lock smith involved & all that, I'd still treat it like I do any other customer............... Ask THEM if you could take another look, if they are unreasonable or the back stories questionable give them a refund! lifes to short. don't think of the lost turnover think of the cost of materials! it ain't worth raising your blood pressure over! keystorage
Well if they are unable to bring in the original ask them for a picture or a scan of the key on a piece of paper, or if they are unable to bring in the key then possibly the lock and if all this cannot be done then I suppose a refund is the only option left.
