kev
Hi Guys, got an issue with one of the keys for my chariot, wondered if any of you can help out Its an 05 plate Seat Altea, with 2 remote fob keys. Recently one of the keys stopped working at distance, and will only open the car when stood directly next to drivers door (this is where the locking system is, in with the window motor). No problem, I will get the battery changed I thought. Changed battery - still same problem They other key still works perfectly ok. Any ideas guys? (apart from the "hold they key next to your forehead" trick ) Thanks in advance Kev

grahamparker
I have a friend (like mick friend, who also knows everything) and his explanation for this is, A radio frequency transmitter will burn out with use which is why the distance for key usage always gets shorter the older the key.Every time the key is used electrons bounce around and burn out the transmitter leading to the problem you describe. I dont know if there is any scientific evidence to back this up but it seems a good explanation to me. You can always hold the key against your head to increase the distance as your body acts as a magnifier to boost the signal.
Gray
Why would you want to unlock it from a distance, you get get in it until your'e standing right next to it anyway.
kev
Thanks for the replies! rlj - its just one of those things you get used to, isn't it. I can't even stand at the rear of the car and unlock the boot without going to the drivers door. grahamparker - sounds a reasonable explanation to me. Does anyone know ir the RF unit is a servicable part for me to replace? stevenb - Kangoo or Altea, I know which I prefer

3D Group
This is common. Manufactorers superceed their parts due to issues like this. If you have the equipment you can buy a new remote from us.
