ANDY
it may be worth attending trophex before making a purchase these people will be showing off their equipment http://www.crystalgalleries.co.uk/engra ... pment.html
Lee
When I had a go at glass blasting I used an old compressor, brought a sandblasting cabinet from seally tools & the sand direct from some company (can't remember their name) is cost me a couple of hundred quid to get going. I was glad I only made a small investment into it, because I hated it! stopped doing it after a coulple of years, not do glass on the engraver. Michael
Right I've had it with glass engraving A new diamond and ever since I've had it I still have to go over the engraving 20 or more times and it still dont come out, just looks a bloody mess Just cocked up a crystal whiskey tumbler that a customer had brought in, which I will replace. WHY, WHY, WHY!!! Can't be a dodgy diamond, could it? I can't pay £60 for a diamond every 2 items I engrave
ANDY
I've had nasty diamonds before, just send em back. I also believe they are not as long lasting as they used to be I normally use the laser for glass but i still do a fair bit with diamonds, I'm on my third diamond this year out of interest how are you engraving items? static diamond? spring tip? pledge? ANDY
just another thought, with a spring tip, if your machine is moving around the letters too quick it will dance around on the surface and not engrave. if you slow your machines travel down it will help. Michael
Yes I use the spring tip with motor running and pledge. I'm gonna try to slow the machine travel down if I can, although glass engraving is a preset on my machine so should be optimal settings
Lee
they didn't send you through a none spinning drag diamond last time by mistake?
Michael
No definitely composite diamond I've just run the same job on said cocked up tumbler and slowed the feed rate down to 0.1m/min and it is much better. Still some little parts of letters not cutting, but with a new diamond it might be ok Cheers Andy
ANDY
\:D/ i use 8mm per second if that helps then slow down to 5mm per second when diamond starts going off
Gray
Just sand blasted this. It took 10 minutes to mask and engrave. Would be curious to know how long something like this would take with diamond?
Michael
Would probably run into hours How much we talking for a sandblasting setup? Bet I'd need another shop to store it in as well, rooms a bit hard to come by in my shop Looks fantastic rlj =D> =D>
ANDY
nice job rlj. probably looking at around half hour to diamond that depending on your bed size you may have to do it in 2 hits laser would do it in 5 mins
