Lee
I want to start making house signs, what do i use to infill them with, is it enamel or cellulose, whats the best one to use? Do you use a primmer? Do you use thinners or spirits to clean of & tidy the excess? Lee
ironplanet uk900
cellulose is the best, lasts for ever. and you need a cellulose thinners to clean up. What are you going to make house signs on lee, your is200tx aint got a big enough engraving area. 225 x 80 Told ya you'd wanna 400 next.. lol
Lee
where do you buy it from? I thought cellulose paint sales had been band, or is that just the spray type? Doe's the thinners not effect the surface of corien (or what ever its called!) Lee
ironplanet uk900
I buy mine from a paint specialist near to were I live, yes it is difficult to buy off the shelf nowadays. No the thinnners doesn't danage the surface.
Lee
what about wood, what do you fill that with? & what do you clean it off with, thinners would melt the varnish surely? Lee
ironplanet uk900
Don't make a mess, then you aint gorra clean it up but you can still use thinners to clean up messy bits, but don't overdo it. I use cellulose on wood also.
kobblers
Good question about the wood Lee as i've often wondered how do you clean the excess paint out of hte wood grain surrounding your text We don't use cellulose thinners on our cellulose paints to clean off the excess, just meths, without any problems. In fact, we've found that it cleans better because it hardly removes any of the infill which cellulose thinners can do as it is a very potent solution. Rick. ironplanet uk900
Your wrong there Rick, Cellulose ithinners s the perfect cleaner for Cellulose paint. And its a matter of defining the art of cleaning up afterwards.. viewtopic.php?t=
kobblers
I never said it wasn't the perfect thinner, just that we prefer meths as WE find cellulose a bit too strong and meths cleans really quickly. Rick.
Michael
mastergrave do some nice thick cellulose paint and thinners, great for pouring and scraping. If you want to infill with a syringe into larger open fonts then gravographs paints do not need thinning down and are great for this I find. Rick. I've never tried Meths to break down cellullose paint to be honest, I wouldn't have thought it had the properties to desolve Cellulose. I'll try it Rick. ANDY
i find neat thinners a bit strong too, i accually use a mixture of 2 thirds meths to 1 third thinners. also meths on it's own is perfect for cleaning fine shallow engraving
