how much do you charge for

Recommended Posts

I recently lost a school order that i normally get, thruogh silly prices. they wanted their normal medals and silver plated salvers at a silly price, the medals came to lots more than they wanted to spend. i said i can get you medals to suit your price but they insisted that they have their normal medals etc and that so an so said they could get their normal medal and salvers at so much and do the engraving for free, thats 84 medals and 6 salvers both with about say 4 lines. it hurt like hell to say it but i had to tell them togo there then plus i normally give them 30 days to pay and turn them around with 2 days notice, its a shame to lose a customer but what can you do work at a loss? i normally discount the engraving but not for free.

i agree with discounts thats what keeps the world turning round but as we all know there is always someone cheaper and vice versa.

sly moves uk with the fonts on shields, hope all is ticking along nicely.

i think we all get customers like that Paul :!:

There's just no pleasing some of them.

Had a customer in today while we were absolutely stacked out with shoes and engraving.

she bought a zippo lighter from us and wanted it engraving. I had 3 or 4 other jobs on the go :smt026 but nevertheless asked her to call back in 20 minutes

"can't you do it any quicker?" was her response

I said I'd do my best and I did get it done in about 10 or 15 minutes.....

she didn't call back for an hour anyway

I think some of them just try to be awkward for the sake of it.

drives me mad :smt120

Naturally I was nice as pie with her when she returned :D

Don't blame you for telling them to go elsewhere Paul. No point in being a busy fool is there!

Its always the pantograph merchants who engrave for pennies,

eerr would you like block or block sir

Would sir like it off centre and a few scratches were we've slipped on our dinosaur engraving machine.

and would you like the text on your top scroll Stepped like a staircase instead of a proper arc.

carry on scratchers

now, now, no need to generalise [-X i don't think we charge pennies, our machine isn't a dinosaur and we offer 7 fonts, how many more fonts do they need? give 'em too much choice and they get bamboozled, i know this from having the metaza, everytime i asked what font they started to bloody panic. who the heck steps it like a staircase????? don't they know to lay it out on the copyslide table in an arch

hi chaps

i have decided to join the masses i just sold 30 medals and engraved them for free.

the reason i figured if i don't someone will so it might just as well be me that gets the sale, but they were the type that didn't need the centres sticking in so that makes it less work if you know what i mean i'm all fingers and thumbs when it comes to centres.

paul

ps wheres the tits man?

Engrave for free..... If we start doing things like that we will all be working for free. :x

We can only improve our service and our shops if we charge for our services not give it away for free.

We charge £5 for a side shield, not had any complaints so far.

iain

why do you think that charging more than 3.00 per side shield is robbing joe public? and the fact you take delight in stealing customers from elsewhere by charging stupid prices says alot.

paul

Sorry it's took me so long to reply but here goes.

I work in a small village in the north east of England in what was formerly North Yorkshire. We all know that Yorkshireman are shall we say careful with their pennies. Being a Yorkshireman myself I wouldnt pay the some of the prices mentioned in posts on this topic to put, lets face it a name and a year on a side shield. so if I wouldn't I have no reason to believe that my customers would either.

and as for your second comment about me taking great delight in stealing customers well there is more to it than just customers. I should imagine that most of the people on this forum take great delight in stealing or winning customers from whereever they come from.

and finally you say my price is stupid and thats up to you but at least I posted my price. I am quite happy being busy, I have had all my regular football teams come back to me again, all of them just ordering with no need to make out quotes to be compared with quotes from the competition.

You might think I'm a fool for not charging higher prices but what would you call me if I charged prices so high that I went out of business. A damm fool that tried well sory guys I will continue to charge what I feel is a fair price for everything I do.

oh and i use times 8l or try to match whats already on

Hi iain

true words, some times we forget where or what part of the country we are based which will be relevent to our prices etc due to rents, rates and the like.

i have always thought engraving be it done by computer, pantograph or hand should expensive, as there is alot of skill and knowledge involved.

But as we now sell trophies and the like with competition from every where, the web, nearly every shoerepairer and trophy shops themselves prices will continue to fall even though the machines be come more complex and dearer to buy you have to wonder whereit will all end.

with courier costs getting dearer also.

well keep busy everyone

paul
