Michael
I've just bought a starter glass etching kit using stencils cut on my vinyl cutter but these can be hard to get fine detail from, so I've been looking at stencil making equipment using developing film, UV etc. Do you have to use a laser printer to create the stencils or is a inkjet ok? Any other info/advice/tips/suggestions/suppliers please? Thanks

Gray
Michael, In answer to your first question when I first started making my own stencils I was told laser because it was blacker. Iv'e got a UV light box if your interested. http://www.crystalgalleries.co.uk/engraving-equipment/mask-making-equipment/a3-uv-exposure-unit-with-vacuum-and-gas-struts.html Similar to this... Thanks but I've just ordered the stencil making set from Mastergrave. Through that link I was looking at the photoresist films, are any of them ok for acid etching? What are the prices like and any recommendations of preference of film to use, advantages/disadvantages etc.
Gray
Sorry for the delay in answering.I do most of my glass engraving on the Universal now Michael. The odd intricate job I get I just send the design to Crystal Galleries and they send me back a self adhesive stencil which I sand blast. ltf.rtf
Michael
I've found the acid etching gives a much better look than the engraving and sandblasting seems to give an even more superior finich with much finer detail. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the printer settings right to make the photosensitive stencils so have given up for a couple of weeks, work starting to pile up and getting nothing done. I'll hopefully buy some more stencil material and have another play soon, although it's bloody expensive to buy just to make mistakes with!!! Gray
It will drive you mad. If you have the design email it off to stencils@crystalgalleries.co.uk. You'll get the stencil back next day, not expensive, they will send a couple of the same design in case you cock up fixing them. Clean the glass with meths first and get a roller to smooth them out. windycity and Michael
