Shoe Repairer Forum

Recommended Posts

morning all, been sniffing round the forum anonymously for a while now thought it only right to sign up and say hello !

I've been out of the repair trade for quite a while now but am looking to get back into it, so I might be after a little help with a few things from time to time

really short introduction I know, but the kettle has just boiled and I need to get ready for work, I'll spend a little more time on here later on, until then, have a good one !

thanks for the welcome ! my history, well I started out in the 80's working for a small chain (Shoetech) in the south east , that led on to some independent work in a variety of units some in Kent and a couple in Portsmouth area, ended up back in Kent working for T**psons of all companies, just couldn't seem to avoid the take over ! worked all over Maidstone & Medway towns for them before I got fed up & left to go gardening ! long story short, my family and I have lived in Cornwall now for 12 years & no intention of moving away. Repairing is in my DNA, there has been many a time I wished I was at it again as an income, and I've reached a stage now in my working life where I am going to try something I should have done 20 odd years ago & work for myself !!

Where are you thinking of opening? I know the area pretty well from a shoe repairers point of view so I might be able to help a little.

Hello Paul, at the moment I'm not looking for premises, I want to be able to work from my home initially & having run a couple of successful agency rounds in the past I'm hoping to use the lack of public transport around this area to my advantage ! village life is still very much alive here and at the heart of them all is a good village shop offering all kinds of services, and in all the ones I've scouted out so far (I get to see quite a few with my day job) not one offers anything associated with the trade.

thanks Lee, plan on running it alongside a part time job as I have little mouths to feed, if it takes off as I hope it will then I can throw myself into it and maybe then think about premises! didn't stop me looking at a couple of shops today though lol !
