Forest Cobbler
Hi Does anyone know where I can get a black bakelite base that is large enough for a Swatkins P75 to sit on top of it. Thanks, Valerie
grahamparker
I would have tried Swatkins first.
Forest Cobbler
We did. But P75 is the largest they do, which is why I'm asking if you know if there's anywhere else.
Auto Key Wizard
But P75 is the largest they do So they must stock a plinth to go with it!!
Forest Cobbler
I think you may be misunderstanding what I am asking for. My customer has a cup with a P75 base already on it, this base is now full and they want to put another one underneath it. Ergo, I am looking for a black bakelite base that is large enough for a P75 to sit on top of it. Another P75 would sit inside the lower rim of the existing base, would never sit straight (I know, I've tried it before) and looks ridiculous. stevecoco
I have this a lot up in Scotland. This is what I do, I have a friend who is a wood turner hobbiest, any bespoke bases I need he makes them for me. Ask your local wood turning club if they can help, there is bound to be one near you. Forest Cobbler
We did suggest a wooden base, Swatkins actually do a large mahogany base that probably could be painted black, but that is something they will only consider if we cannot get a bakelite one. stevecoco
I have this used one I keep for emergencys. 140mm across top, 75mm tall.
Forest Cobbler
I'm confused. A P75 is 194mm across the bottom, so wouldn't stand on one that's 140mm across the top. If that's what you're suggesting. V
stevecoco
A couple of things. 1. I do not know the size of a P75, now you have included the mm sizes I can see that my base is too small 2. Was only trying to help. Spent time digging that out. End of help.
Forest Cobbler
Sorry, didn't mean to offend. Have to admit that I rather assumed everyone would have a Swatkins book, so would know the size. I stand corrected and very contrite. I should have put the size on right at the beginning. Please accept my humble apologies and thanks for digging that other base out. Would not like to think that I've lost your help for good. thetrophyroom
Hi Valerie, I had a job like this last week. Couldn't find a bakelite base to fit anywhere and so had to use the Swatkins mahogany base and paint it black. Quite an expensive way to go but my customer was happy enough to pay for it. Forest Cobbler
Hi Martin I'll tell my customer that that is what they're going to have to do. There were definitely bigger bases made in the past, I've seen them, but there's obviously no call for them now. Many thanks, Valerie

Forest Cobbler
The customer is refusing to take 'no' for an answer, so has decided to go elsewhere. Thanks for all your help though. Valerie
grahamparker
Some you win, some you loose. At least you tried and i'm sure they wont get any joy elsewhere either.
