Mick Friend
Oh! Trainees..... Yes had the same problems. BUT me being a hard b*****d I always insisted on goggles.. they moaned and groaned but one day whilst doing something stupid with the side ward it snapped on the shaft and half the blade pinged up and hit his goggles square on, left a big dent/cut on the plastic. Goggles framed and on the wall. I have no idea how it happened and I did a full H&S review, I asked machine makers and blade suppliers and noboddy had ever heard of that happening----- shame it wasn't his head, sacked him 3 months later for being a lazy git. grahamparker
Not uncommon Mick, i have had at least 20 ward cutters brake in this way.Had a few hit my goggles over the years. When they go they are usually when cutting a few warded keys at the same time so heat may be one of the causes. One hit a customer once after rebounding off the suspended ceiling but did no harm. Dean
I was engraving a brass plaque once, a few years ago and the tip of the cutter snapped off, shot across the room and pierced an un-opened can of diet coke which then exploded and sprayed everywhere Got me thinking, what if that had been my head

Mick Friend
Dean no worries The coke is under pressure - your head - empty - it would have imploded .
