New outsole stitchers

Recommended Posts

The last manufacturer to make a brand new outsole was Pedersen that I know of and they stopped making them about 20 years ago. I sold the last new one in the UK about 1991 and it was just over £13000.00 then so imagine how much one would be today.....Power also made the AFL (Frobana) and I think there may be enough bits to make a new one but they aren't the best of machines. Sutton Landis in the US dont make new either any more.

On the Victor I use a bigger awl than needle. Always wet heavy leather work..... With stout rubber I use a silicone sponge over the sole to stop it grabbing and warm them a bit under the flash heater to soften them a bit..........Oh and clear out all the old stitches first.............An absolute must........Thing is these outsole stitchers have their own personalities....What works for me might not work for you... I was going to liken them to women and their mood swings but I didn't..............Oh I did   ............ #-o #-o

A 43 awl is bigger than a 45 needle so the same would apply to a Goodyear as to a Victor as the awl makes the whole for the needle to follow :D

Now you are asking, we normally only fit 45 needles because most other sizes don't have guides available any more. Don't think either that a bigger needle will be stronger. It won't

Does that mean a thicker needle was only to use a heavier thread rather than be stronger?

Yes exactly. whatever breaks a thinner needle will break a thicker needle. The needle manufacturers are stopping making anything but 45 needles and 43 awls

Not really, be careful though as there are some whb heads around which are a problem

Really? If the parts are available you can service the whb machines, we have whb consumables so shouldn't be a problem, depends on the condition of the machine :D

Standard heads are more desirable but the k&b ones can be refurbished.
