engraving prices

Recommended Posts

Hello

The price survey is a great help when it comes to making sure we're not too far from the national average. But I'm thinking of re-formatting our engraving price list and would be interested in your input. I'm not really concerned about how much you would charge for each job, I'm more interested to know if you think one article is any more difficult to engrave than another.

Assuming that all you're engraving is a few words, would you charge more for engraving a money box than a photo frame? More for a pendant or ID bracelet than a key ring? Do you charge more for engraving the back of a watch in a circle, rather than straight lines?

When it comes to annual records, do you charge the same for a single person's name as you would for a doubles record, or a team come to that? And if they haven't had their cup engraved for the last 5 years and want you to do all five records, do you charge for each record separately, or do reduce the price a bit because you're only setting it up once?

Thanks for your help. Valerie

Rule of thumb, you charge as much as you can get away with.

It all comes down to your own structure of charges, personaly as far as the cup is concerned , yes i would give a discount, that way they will come back. As for the other items, i have been told by the master engraver around this area that you should be on at least £20 per hour for engraving, so if the watch back only takes half an hour to engrave with sraight lines charge £10, if it takes an hour to engrave it in a circle charge up to £20. But again it is up to you what you charge, the customer can only say no thanks.

I have sorted my charges out every year with the help of the survey we have on here, some items i am more expensive but others i am cheaper, if people want to go to joe blogs down the road so be it, but i know they will be back for quality work done poroperly, promptly and at a fair price.
