Keys & remotes resources & help

Recommended Posts

I’m a typical key cutter who typically let transponders & remotes run away. I now want to get on top of it all & I’ve brought a keycrypt pro (excellent advice & expertise from Mike Lees at Davenports as usual & thanks for the fish & chips Mike!)

I’m now in the frame for a diagnostics machine for programming keys & remotes, unfortunately AD don’t let you into their forums until you own a machine making research & confidence building slow going for their machine & so to my questions!

I’ve read thekeyvan’s tutorial viewtopic.php?f=30&t=4227&start=0

Even spent time with him at the Edinburgh show & am looking forward to getting going, but its things like getting pass codes that are troubling me, mainly from the point of view of how quickly can you get them, do you get them before you get to the car? What cars are no go areas? Simple questions which are hard to find answers to, so do I start posting them up here, or are there other forums, websites or resources you recommend?

You can get pin codes and key numbers from dealers if you build up a good relationship with service and parts depts. I use them most of the time, and find them very helpful. You can get Renault and Peugeot codes almost instantly or within a few minutes depending how busy they are, Vauxhall take a bit longer, from 2 hours to next day. Citroen and Fiat usually 1-2 hours. Modern vehicles, including Ford, Mitsubishi, Honda, Mazda & Jaguar use internet based functions from the AD Pro machine. Kia & Hyundai pin codes are converted from Vin numbers by the AD Pro, with Nissan codes being calculated from immobiliser id numbers. Hope this clears a few things up. I use an MVP Pro token system as it was low initial outlay cost, and gives me total coverage with free updates. I always buy tokens in 250 quantities at around £7.50 each.

Once you have bought the machine you will find most of the info you require in the manual, they also have a help line you can phone.

what i would say is, i assume you will only be doing extra keys as you will not have the knowlege/machinery to do lost key situations?

I have found that i am not always cheaper on extra keys but always will be if all the keys are lost, a bit of research on local dealer prices might be a good idea?

You can then compare these prices to the actual cost of your materials, overheads and how much profit you will be left with?

Do you have enough custom coming though the door at present to make it viable or will you need to advertise?

Not trying to put you off but theres always lots of second hand MPV's for sale and they've not been making them long, something to think about?

If you do have any idea on prices, say so, but don't actually say what they are until we've moved this to the trade section

Just a little pointer. If you buy from us regular and you struggle getting codes from the a dealership we supply for a cost (adverised on our site) via Text message.

If you brouse our site under Code retreival it tells you what to do and what codes we can get.

Soon Mitsubishi Key numbers, Smart car key numbers, Late CAN Hyundai and pincodes will be added to the long list.
