I had a customer want four of these yesterday, 7 gauge and looks like securefast with a shorter shank, which makes no difference I know.

but they didn't work, wouldn't go in. Ive cut em off a 7 gauge blank this time.

wouldn't go in the bit must be a tad thicker as securefast are gauge 7.

will keep an eye out for them though.

Check the weld on the bit ain't raised, I've seen this problem on Securefast & some blank manufactures 8 gauge Gibbons mortice also

 

I like to stock RST for these mortice

Sometimes the bit isn't welded on the shaft centraly, or as tel says the weld needs grinding off a bit.

I just wondered wether it was a securefast but modified a little.

Ive had a few of those in, from the local tech college, I used a securefast but lucky for me the guy always brings the lock in which means I can try them first.

Just started to see a few of those myself.. I've been using the Securefast blank. No problems as yet. I did recently have a few problems with the L102 Legge blank that involved the need to clean up the weld.

hey, look what i got in this week cut it off a G7 mortice and it worked fine. thanks for the warning folks.
