Aglets and Lace on a Roll.

Recommended Posts

When I was at college we used to use lace on a roll (100 metres?). We'd just hack off what we needed and crimp the aglets on the end.

Now I need to buy some. Can I find it? Unless I'm using the wrong names none of my usual suppliers (Colledges, Leather and Grindery, etc.) seem to do it. Google isn't much help, apart from some American suppliers I can't get the lacing and the only aglets I can get are the fancy ones.

You guys always seem to know where to get stuff so can you help this time?

I seem to remember John the Dutch Cobbler (Sorry, I can't remember his user name, haven't seen him around recently...) talking about selling all his laces on the roll.

Caroline from Shoestring got in on the conversation, but I can't remember the outcome in any great detail, only that this was talked about.

Hope this helps...

We did have the hand crimping pliers and metal tags from Goetz many years ago ( perhaps argy may remember ? )  the pliers were expensive and the tags  were thick metal and very expensive, the process was time consuming and fiddly  making a lace cost several times more than the equivalent factory produced ones.

At one time I believe there was a little gadget which heat shrank a plastic double length tag on to a lace and then guillotined it to form the end of one lace and the start of the next.  Sadly these don't seem to be available now even though it is possible to buy lace in continuous rolls,   If only someone could re invent them?........................
