Best guess is that your customer has not tried the new key in the lock.

The bottom key is an original Union key for the three lever range ie 2177, 2277 etc.

The top key is, I believe supplied by Davenport Burgess cut on their blank and stamped up to suit.

They should both operate the lock although the DB key has side wards.

I think your customer is looking at the key and seeing the side wards cut out then assumes it will not operate the lock.

Union are also now producing the cheaps as chips essential range that also uses the m101-200m keys.

They are Crap, but i have had 2 union 2277 returned today brand new when they where opened to be fitted the keys wouldn't operate on both sides, on closer

inspection of the locks every single component looks to have been manufactured as cheaply as posible yet they still hold a premium price.

Typical Assa Abloy management, cut the costs and bump up the price hoping no one notices.

Slightly off topic but related to factory keys not working. For six months now I routinely have Cicely Commercial (Mercedes) bringing new keys in to be corrected as they don't fit. Just run them through my copy machine to correct them. I get about one a week! You would think that this must be national issue and they would have re-calibrated their machine by now! Lol

More money in my till though!

I might be wrong as its not the biggest or best photo in the world, but clicking on the picture & measuring the flag from the shoulder on my screen which could be completely inaccurate I'd say the flag on the copy is not quite the right distance from the shoulder if you run your cutter down the sides it will probably work.
