Key for a one lever mortice?

Hi guys,

 

Im looking for some advice on how to get a key for this lock? It appears to be 1 lever. A customer brought it in keyless and I manufactured a key by eye but it is only working when I hold down the mechanism. If it don't hold it down, it is lifting, so wont turn. Any advice would be appreciated.

it don't look tall enough to me to throw the bolt, but difficult to tell from the picture. If you post it to me I'll do it.

It is throwing the bolt ok. I think if it was taller it wouldn't fit into the keyhole.

 

Its just raising and coming loose when im not holding it together. I have manufactured a washer to hold it together. Its a bit too tight now but its working, though im still tinkering.

Take the lever and bolt out of the case, close the case then make sure the key is cut to the correct width from both sides, make sure the key is cut high enough so it only just fits into the case.

 

Then cut the wards so the key turns but only just passing the wards. then reintroduce the bolt and lever and cut down

the key to the correct height, filing the cut with a rounded finish for a smooth operation.

 

Leave the cut higher than needed and close the case filing it bit by bit to get it as accurate as possible.

I took all the parts out and rounded the edges of the keys and its working great. Thanks for all the advice guys!
