amc1980
Hello there, I am currently developing a new website which is to include a wide range of personalised gifts. Some of the products which I would like to sell on the site are Engraved Champagne and Wine Bottles (full), and also wine bottles in wooden boxes (wooden boxes engraved with a CO2 laser). My question is - would I need a license to sell alcohol off premises (an Off-License)? Or, because I am selling the "Engraving" or "personalisation" service, would this be exempt? I suppose the same would apply to hampers etc.. There are lots of very small sites (and shops) which I have seen which sell the odd engraved champagne bottle (full) - I can't imagine they have a license. If anyone can offer any advice on this, I would be most grateful.
grahamparker
My advice would be to contact Trading Standards and seek the correct answer from them. I'm pretty sure if you supply any form of alcohol (even in gift form) you will need a license.
StevenB
As I understand the rules, you will need a license if you are to be supplying the bottles of alcohol that are being engraved. If the customer brings it to you to be engraved, no problems.
petercoulson
And you will have an issue of how old your customers are?
CotswoldEngraver
I concur with Steven. If you are supplying any kind of alcohol you will need a licence. we looked in to selling engraved champagne bottles on our website and it was just not worth it with all the hassle.
