key cabin
Hi Chaps, I need a little help on a problem that seems to be happening on a frequent basis, when i change the baterie on a watch i always ensure the second hand is moving, if it hasnt got a second hand i test it on my tester, sometimes the tester is telling me that the watch is ticking but the hands are not moving. I pull the winder out and make sure it is back in properly, but it still wont engage the movement. Am i doing something wrong or do i need to kickstart the watch in some way or is it just that the watch has had its day? Dave
Lee
this is usually a fault between the stepper motor (little thing with copper wire coiled round it) & the movement or debris in the movement itself. occassionally you can clear this using a witschi cyclonic, but this usually only cures the problem in about a third of the cases. second from that is a replacement movement (easy option!) or third is a strip down & clean of the movement along with replacing stepper or circuit. It can not be cured by the stem. Lee
key cabin
Hi Lee, Thanks for the advise on this one, just one question, what is a witschi cyclonic?
Lee
http://www.witschi.com/e/produkte/?sub=2&cat=&id=65 Solidified oil and dirt can be released from the bearings by rotating the gear train rapidly. This usually enables a blocked movement to be brought back into operation again which is often the only possibility to repair a watch that cannot be dismantled. You have to shop around for price on these, it even varries dependent on colour!
Lee
incidentally you can also use the cyclonic to put the time right on a watch with out touching the crown. useful on occasion with mini clocks or random cases where perhaps the crown has been eaten away by the users filth & they aren't prepared to pay for the extra work! Michael
Look quite good There leak tester looks very nice as well! I take it the prices in CHF are Swiss francs? CHF 480.00 and CHF 2970.00 = £316.07 and £1955.
key cabin
Popped onto Google to have a look at one of these, a bit pricey, but, if you are using it every day to rectify faults it is a must have. What sort of price range are we looking at? (in pound sterling of course )
