Irontoe
Just out of interest how many offer a service to water test the resistancy of watches after a battery change? I have a couple of questions for you! What sort of price do you charge? How do you guarantee the water resistancy of the watch? Surely you cannot guarantee something for which you have no control over once it leaves your shop? The customer is bound to say 'I only wore it in the shower' or 'I was only wearing it in the rain'. Surely the water test can only tell you that at the time of the test the watch passed. It cannot tell whether any of the gaskets are going to fail in the next few months. If you do offer an guarantee how long is it? Ta for any input!
ironplanet uk900
12 month guarantee. Price from £9.95 If its waterproof when it leaves shop, it should stay waterproof for duration of battery life. there are pitfalls though, customer could leave button out, in some cases this leaves the watch vunerable for leekage. but in 30 od years I have had no problems. My prices reflect the value of the watch and possible movement replacement.
Lee
Agreed, although my guarantee reads "At time of testing" I've never had a watch fail after testing & would react appropriately dependent on the individual case (should it ever arise!) Count Muppet
if you test the watch and it fails, do you still charge for the test? this whole water test seems to be very confusing. i have read that timpson are now going to pressure test watches whether customers ask to or not, but at what point do you compensate if the watch fails? the watch could leave your shop and receive a knock to the glass a month later, this could affect the water resistency. not the shops fault but if it leaks, and you have guaranteed it not to for 12 months, what do you do next? Lee
if you test the watch and it fails, do you still charge for the test?If they are paying for a test & it fails then you know where its leaking & fix it, thats what they are paying for! Simples. Lee
ironplanet uk900
1, If it fails test, then I cure the problem. 2, I have never encountered a problem after the service has been performed. 3, Make sure you know what your doing before you offer the service. Count Muppet
sorry, I meant if it fails due to things like the case eroding, the case back being distorted, chips in the glass or a gasket needs replacing on a chrono pusher. Surely this would not be repaired within the original price? If the customer doesn't want to pay for the complete repair, do you still charge for the test? ironplanet uk900
If I couldn't seal the watch, then I wouldn't charge, but it's never happened. I don't charge for anything I can't do !!!
