Danny King
I have just noticed a cobbler near me is engraving zippo's with footy logo's and then selling them. He has them for all to see in his window. He is selling them for around £24, The real ones from zippo are around £30 Anyone know what the legal aspect of this is? Or is this something we all could do?

k4mrc
i remember making the same mistake i put them in my shop window, villa b'ham etc sports shop opposite lost a small sale to me as they sold a crap image of villa and the customer wanted mine. the sports shop, shopped me into the F.A. who wrote to me - i was lucky, they smacked my wrist gave me a warning, thing is i was really lucky - they can fine you (i am told) 50 K for each breach of copyright!! so beware dont do it! you dont know who will be jealous of your sales or even an x employee,
Mick Friend
surely they would have to issue with a compliance notice or something and take you to court first or is this country so totally f****D that any pratt can fine you! I know nuffin But if a customer walks in with an image and asks for it to be engraved and it later turns out to be some dippo's logo you can be done? I understand producing bucket loads and flooding the market... but how the hell do you know its like cutting a key and later it turns out it was for a house they didn't own how do you know? Happy Dude
a friend of mine has a tattoo shop on the same street as a scottish premier league club, he was doing the club logo until they wrote to him telling him that if he wanted to keep doing the club emblem he would need to purchase a license from them, £1,000's of pounds they wanted for it, they just didn't want people getting their emblem on their bodies, probably thought it was tacky and and not the image they wanted to promote someone else i know was doing zippo's engraved with car logos on fleabay and was sent an email through ebay from one of the car companies that what he was doing was illegal and steps would be taken if he didn't stop... copyright infringement is a serious thing.... Mick Friend
I agree, but first the warning, then the action. Many of these so called copyright issues have no basis because they have not registered their design etc.
