Well done to kenneth simpson, good pair of shoes. I have room for improvement on my comp job for next year but not far behind on the judges sheets, was only 0.75% behind which im quite chuffed with as its my first go at the comp. Did anyone manage to get any good pics ????

Couldn't make the show this year, so didn't get to see the entries, although the winning photo looked a superb job.

But just saw these two, I resume they made the final. the stitching and waist on the nearest shoe is awfull, and the far shoe has got rivets all around the Rubber tip, something you should never do.

Who Judges this competition.

As I said the winning shoe looked the dogs, so well done.

the judging was very good this year, the best three pairs on the table where in the top three places.

The picture commented on shouldn't be a reflection of the judges, they can only judge the places on the shoes entered.

Other than the top three, the others & the ones shown where the also rans. I would love to have seen the other entries that didn't make it to the exhibition, they must have been really bad!

They are Lee, they are!!!

how can you (not you personally)judge the stitching in a groove when the groove has been filled with Wax????

Wax covers up a multitude of sins, missed stitches, uneven tension etc.

The hardest job to do is the natural finish as you cant hide any marks or imperfections.

Covering over a scoured waist with blacking and wax to hide a poor graft in my opinion is not a cometition winner no matter how may points the judges awarded in ignorance. and if that comment gets up anyones nose, tough Shit.

Let's get things straight. I can only judge what I see from a photo uploaded by others. In hindsight It is wrong for me to make judgements on photos as things are not always as they look.

On the face of it Ken had put an enormous amount of work in the waist and breast area on the winning shoes, it is a method from many moons ago and one that is very difficult to emulate. As a trainee in competitions we all were brought up doing this type of finish but the standards were so high as everyone knew how to do it and there were hundreds of entries all of an exceptional standard.

I was wondering, did anyone ever approch this company about holding a competition?

http://www.jfjbaker.co.uk/index.php

Does anyone use their product? Is it as good as JR?

Maybe as J & FJ Baker is Britain's only remaining traditional oak bark tannery, perhaps they could give their competition entrants free materials to promote their product?
