elfman
had a customer come in today and asks do i do stitched leather soles on dance shoes as she has been told by her dance teacher that the only firm that do it now is timpsons ,my first reply was , not true quie a few independents do it just as good, her reply being what type of sole would you use ,my reply was depends on the shoe is it ladies or gents is it the suede or leather type ,her reply was ladies suede type,so i informed her that these are normally stuck on ,she then said that she did not want that becouse shes been told that they always peel off to this i replied that whoever told her that was wrong her reply was i dont think so this was her dance teacher whos been doing it for 20 years and she should know to which i replied that i have been repairing and making shoes for 30 years and not had that problem, but the real upshot is that she actually wants 3mm leather soles blake stitched on , i then told her that that we not be wise in my view and she said she would go and have a think about it,my pasing shot was look at this website and ask for advice from the lads on the site
Guest cortina 2000
just a thought, but wet the soles and a shallow groove should be ok I think. would tend to agree with you that it should be unnecessary to stitch them at all. but hey, I'm no dance instructor. steve

toofatbyfar
we have done lots of dance shoes over the years, in my opinion the suede dance sole are always stuck on,never had a problem with it coming off, why would you want to blake 3mm leather on and leave it like that,
Lee
Genuine dance shoes (not shoes adapted!) are usually very supple & I use my 29k to stitch on Crome leather dance soles occasionally. for a 3mm leather I would put a 1mm deep grove & blake them as requested. Then you might end up with the entire troop coming your way & you can gradually educate them as you build their trust in your skills I had a similar experience with a tap school near by, had to put the taps off set from the centre for some side steps they did. I did a couple this way & then begun to explain that the side step could be achieved with them in the correct position & they where more stabble for normal steps. Now I do hundreds of them each year.
