Guest k@lsb
Thanks Keith, It is very difficult be the piggy in the middle, I can see the need for change but it has to come about through dialogue that involves all parties getting together around a table. Unfortunately this causes an enormous amount of problems that many could not envisage, some can, but the majority cant. I know the amount of time people like yourselves give to organising events and it is far to easy for someone like myself (as I often do and wont stop ) to list the problems after the event when I had no involvement in the first place. Events like the Exhibitions, like the Shoe Repair week/fortnight/month and the Competitions all take up a tremendous amount of thankless time. Yes they are done for commercial reasons but the biggest benefit is to the trade as a hole. hugh youre veiws are always welcomed on the forum..you are a asset to it.if only i had half youre wisdom and straight thinking.id be great and very rich.........................keep posting mate..........i can see both points of reason..............but meeting in the middle would possibly be best.............and if you were a bos.god help youre staff.i dont think alot would pass you by.....and peters wit is hilarious.he like you is a clever guy...and he always makes me smile...wish there were more like him.......ps put my cheque in the post ........with plenty of zeros on the end lol

x minit uk
I am sure James Timpson's company could run a competition open to all, they have plenty of staff and room to accomadate the 100's of shoes that would be sent in.
Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
A good thought xminit, one that ran through my mind several times over the years but, with 90% of the previous winners being timpson staff what whould be the reaction if they all won again, I can just imagine it now. FIX bloody FIX. Their staff would probably be on a good incentive over & above the prize money to carry away the trophies yet again. You do have to hand it to them they are putting in more effort than anyone else, it should be the other way around. There are I think more individual repairers capable of winning this competition than there are managers of multiple who are capable. Ted Starzak is one, UK900 is another and so are Lee and Tel and many more that are or are not members of the forum.

Some good points there Hugh, but I think you are pushing it a bit far with Tel. . As for the fix fix thing, it would depend who was on the panel of judges, maybe Timpsons could run a in house compy and select a group of customers for their opinions on the repairs, just an idea like. Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
[ As for the fix fix thing, it would depend who was on the panel of judges, maybe Timpsons could run a in house compy and select a group of customers for their opinions on the repairs, just an idea like. As far as i'm aware timpsons have been doing in house competitions for the past 50 years xminit. That is where I got my competiton skills honed by entering every year. There were 12 of us in the same factory trying to get the best pair as only one pair went to be judged. It was nearly always won in the early days (50s) by a gent named Bert Cotterill from coventry. Probably why they have so many winners over the years is the fact that they have these competitions and encourage them to take part. There is room for an Indpendants only competition as well as an all out open one, with perhaps the winners of the Independant one and the winners of the multiples one going head to head at the National Open one along with entries from other sources such as individuals who wish to be part of niether section. There is tremendous scope as long as it is handled correctly. Ohhhhh, By the way, what's wrong with Tel200s repairs? One never knows the potential lurking beneath.
