Guest Iain Cheall
right I have a heart warming tale to tell you all it's rather long and drawn out but I think you will all get a laugh out of it. It all started on the 20th of December in the year of our Lord 2007. I was just thinking I'll do one more job and I'll have my dinner, The last job of the morning was a Gold Plated Sekonda Pocket watch that required me to put 'DW' in the little shield design in the middle of the back of the watch. I carefully measured the piece and entered everything into Gravo put the watch in the jig and adjusted the z setting, pressed the green button and watched in horror as the plating started to move under the diamond. I hit the red button but alas the watch was ruined. Resisting the urge to throw something through the shop windows and to turn a big hammer against my faithful volume. I made a few phone calls and searched the internet for a replacment which was duely found at argos for £50. I then sent lee a PM asking for his advice. He advised me that even though it's wasn't really my fault if he was me he would replace the watch try to repair the now knackered watch and then either try to sell it in the shop or take it back to argos, Thus keeping my customer happy and minimising my liabilities. So back on the web I reserve a watch from argos, cancel a night out to go and get it and visit the sekonda website to get contact details. Phone them up get through to sales explain to them my predicament and have them sneering down the phone at me as they say "they will pass me to repairs and if the lady had wanted her watch engraving properly all she had to do was send it to them and they would have done it free". The repair guy was less sympathetic "you tried to engrave the back? we always engrave the front and we do it free I'll pass you to parts". Here I strike lucky "Thats unusual " he says " the plating is usually good on those, I tell you what i will do for you. I'll send you out a new back and a pin free" I thanked him profusely and hung up. On the 22nd the lady comes in for her watch:- "Sorry we wern't able to do this for you we say to her but the plating gave way so we have replaced your watch and here is your money back" "I can't believe you have gone to the trouble of replacing it, it wasn't your fault but I would really like something for it" "how about a brass plate 50x16 fastened to the box" "That would be great" She says and goes off happy telling me to keep my refund as shes made up with me. The new back arrived inbetween christmas and new year but I didn't get around to looking at it until yesterday. I spent an hour a so trying with no sucess to remove the 1mm pin holding the back on, Giving up I phone my brother who is the family mr fixit and ask him to look at " sure he says bring it round tonight" 2 hours after i drop it off He arrives back at my house and looks at me "you big pratt" "what" "when you tried to engrave this bloody watch did it not cross your mind to remove the anti scratch tape" "what" "you heard you bloody pillock" "your joking" "i wish i was" "did you change the back" "didn't need to, you only marked the tape, there isn't a scratch on the watch" So the watch with anti scratch tape replaced is now back in its box and is awaiting return to argos. I have a sekonda back and pin if anyone requires one, a very red face and might manage to laugh about this properly next time i'm in the cobblers arms getting merrily drunk. As the title says never dare a fool, Lee dared me to tell you all and I'm a fool

'Onest Andy
That's a classic tale Mr. C. Certainly gave me a laugh. Glad to hear that all worked out well in the end though.
