Lee
Your starter for TEN, a few thoughts Lets have a list of suppliers that we all use with addresses, phone nos. emails, websites this way we can find more obscure suppliers. I am well on the way to the all home page, which should be launched in the next couple of weeks. This will include a fully searchable data base for suppliers to add there contact details and a list of products they offer. it will possibly include a rating system. lets get suppliers to pick randomly someone on the forum to try new machines/materials/solutions/anything! well suppliers? Forum Dicount on top of exhisting discount?Cool! Unification of all shoerepairers/keycutters/service centres?pretty much what this site is beginning to do? Lets try and get a link with SOMSR/MSA or lets have a shorepair coup and take them over (joke Trevor) .....thoughts..... I cannot comment as to why SOMSR/MSA seam to not want involvement, but thats what its all about freedom of speech I don't pass judgment on the nonbelievers, I only take the P**s out of the posters Lets lobby the DTI for trade recognition.(while it still exists) I have already looked into this, and it appears there is no recognition for a project such as this (unless you can show me other wise......) Lets get together instead of just talking about it? I have an idea for this, but I am awaiting opportunity & timing... Lee

Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
Well, there have been dozens of attemps at unifying all Repairers for scores of years and every attempt has failed, there are just to many sceptics and humbuggers but thankfully many are departing through one reason or another. The Cutting Edge has been trying for a few years and still cant drum up interest enough for you to contribute, other than the few who stand to be counted. Everyone moans but very few have the guts to stick their neck on the line by doing or saying something in print. Or is it that we are afraid of being ridiculed? I on the other hand jump in at the deep end and often drown under the deluge of protests, but I have a very good first aider who gives me the kiss of life to fight again, bouncing back to life with lessons learned and a new set of Armour. Can Hugh-Doit?? yes you can.

Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
Tis no use just meeting, though that would be nice socially, there has to be a plan of action, what are we going to do, how do we acheive it, who does what etc: Tis very easy to meet at the exhibition have a few drinks a few laughs a few tall stories but where do we go from there? As Keith mentioned, we have to get involved with the Cutting Edge, we have to unite, we cant do anthing on our own putting words on a forum. Cutting Edge, The Forum, Thames Valley, SOMSR, Wholesalers, Manufacturers can unite, but only if you make the effort. We could stand United Or fall Divided. I did my share years ago, time for new blood with new ideas.
keithm
I concur Hugh. Mind you, an initial meet at Sandown would be a start. I started the 'Southern Shoe Repair Association' some years ago coz I was a so fed up with the lack of activity within the trade. It failed. Not because it was badly run or was uninteresting, it was just through the lack of participation of the members which totalled about 20!! Most members were in favour of what ever was being suggested, they just werern't prepared to help out! They were in favour as long as someone else was doing all the graft. I gave up in the end because I refused to flog a dead horse, and rufused to continue helping others who were not prepared to help themselves. Because of the geographical localations of the members, I would suggest that meeting at the Annual Exhibition is a good idea, the likelyhood is that most would attend anyway and it would be an opportunity to 'get together' as Lee suggested. I personally would also like to see a much larger contingent at the 'Cutting Edge' AGM as YOU have the opportunity to contribute and raise any issues you have. These 'meets' would be 2 per annum! Approx 6 months apart. Surely if you the members cannot commit to those then there is little hope of moving the Trade/Forum/SoMSA on very mcuh more from where it is now? As an eternal optomist please prove me wrong! I thank you Keith
Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
That just about sums up the reason why I gave up Keith. Too many want the action but no-one to act. All words no substenance. The meeting at sandown is needed to make the forum more personal but I doubt if the earth will move, I would like to be proved wrong. Unusual for me to be thinking negative. Mmmm. Similiar on the forum, same folk doing the contributing but hundreds watching.

keithm
Mind you, mention the fact that there's a few bob to be made and they sonn fall out of the woodwork! Whenever I had a speaker present at one of our meets, the first question most would come out with was 'any FREE samples'. that was normaly as they walked through the door before the guy had said a word!! Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
Oh no not another Calender like the "Womens Institute" one. "Cobblers Bare Bottoms" I can see the headlines now. We've already seen uk900 in his Nappy, is that going to be the Front Page? There may be a hundred or so members Lee but there are also hundreds watching that are not members!
