2002 Vito blade length issue!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi

my mate has just bought a 2002 Vito. It came with a flip remote & a transponder key. Basically the flip blade had snapped so i've cut him a MEB-4 from 3D Group but when the blade is fitted into the remote it won't turn in the ignition barrel. Doesn't seem to go far enough in as the remote case hits the plastic ring that's around the barrel

I initially tried the blade in the door locks & ign barrel before i fitted it to the remote & it worked in them all with no probs

Anybody got any ideas about how i can get around it?

thanks

Craig

All the vito's i have seen are fixed and not flick out so it is gonna be a fiddly job.

You will need a Silca HU72RP then cut the plastic head and file the metal to the required shape then file a v groove for the roll pin to fit into.

I have done this a couple of times and to be honest it is a right ballache but it does work.

Carefull with the filing as it need to be a nice tight snug fit.

yeh i'd actually thought of that while my mate was round. I compared the length of the Ym15t5 to the flip blades i've got. He couldn't hang about any longer as he had a job to go do so he's going to pop again round later in the week

I was just hoping somebody had come across this issue before & maybe knew of another way round it other than having to alter another key to make it fit for the job

thanks for the reply

The blades are made by Silca. They have a reference that is not YM15 but VA5. They are actually different to YM15 hence the different reference and people have got them working on some remote systems, me included. At present there isn;t any others available and I do not think they will be made because the keys have not been used on Mercedes now for sometime now.

So unfortunately it will be chopping down the YM15 for some vehicles like the V-Series and Vito vans.

I did mention it to Silca once but they said it works what they made them for as they make the genuine ones.
