actionman
Hi been looking into getting equipment to be able to program Merc keys. So basically what I want to know is can a used Merc remote be programmed to a different vehicle as i've been talking to somebody who sells used keys & he cays they can. Which i'm a bit unsure if if i believe him or not. Also it's the flip type remotes & the newer non blade type remotes Oh & are these only available new from Merc? thanks Craig

Craig Gardner
I'd rather not do those keys for now. why it will take you less time than doing a pair of leather soles and heels and make more profit.thats why i employed a cobbler to do shoes so i had more time to do the more interesting and more profitable work. craig

Count Muppet
With the dick heads working there, I can't imagine it would be fun! Far from it. I've had a fair bit of experience with soldering/desoldering and I would rather not mess around with customers IC's. static can be a killer. Craig Gardner
i remember the days only a couple of years ago when not so much software was available that in the snow in minus temperatures i would go out to a lost car key job in my van make a key roadside usualy by having to strip the lock as it would be frozen solid then strip a immo box out the car desolder it in the van defrosting fingers first with hot air gun eeproming it puting it back together car now running and customer moaning how much it cost who else would have done that in 6 inch of snow.but they were the days when you could charge well i took £450 for 1 remote key in a astra g no car pass eepromed for pin whole job 40 mins in snow over £400 profit. but now i only do trade work and spare keys at back door of my shop far to lazy to go out on domestic call couts craig
Keydoctor
Merc keys also take about 5 - 6 days to come from the dealer, so this option might be more expensive than the dealer, but convenience costs money and its the service that they are paying for not just the key. It might not be everyones cup of tea, but once you've done your 1st one or two, they become easy as the unknown becomes known, same as every other aspect of the job. Also as far as i'm aware, 2011my onwards Mercedes are all done via OBD with the correct software.
