s-express
Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting asking for advice on a trade association forum as a consumer, but whenever I need guidance on any technical matter I tend ask on a forum where the specialists are. In the case of shoes it would appear that this is the place to be ! I have a few pairs of goodyear welted shoes that need a resole ( a couple of leather soled Hoggs, and a dainite soled pair from Jones the bootmaker). I'd prefer to use a company close to Fife, Scotland so that I could drop the shoes off, and support local business, rather than use one of the many "repair by post" services that are out there. Can anyone recommend a repairer near to me? Perhaps there are some on this forum? I could use one of the national chains of repairers, but I have a feeling that a specialist independent may be better? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. Lee
Welcome to the site, your more than welcome to ask your questions here! I can offer to do them mail order & you'd be cosy in knowing you've supported a small businessman with a happy little family! other than that we have a few members within a 40/50 mile radius of you & I'm sure one of them will be along to give you their address shortly! kev
Whilst I don't believe they are forum members, I can highly recommend Master Cobbler, 95 Market Street, St. Andrews, Fife, KY16 9NX. Speak to John or Kevin. \:D/

s-express
Thanks for all the advice folks. A couple of recomendations there for "Master Cobbler" so will probably pop in there next time I am out in that direction. I'm in Glenrothes, so if there is any one closer to home, even Perth or Edinburgh ( my typical shopping haunts) feel free to let me know. I think you are correct about Hoggs no longer repairing, I note that Hogg's local retailer "Fife Country" suggests sending the shoes to Twigg Shoe Services in Carlisle. http://www.fifecountry.com/customer-services.html I'm guessing that they had used the same provider as Hoggs previously ( both companies are in Cupar, not sure if they are related some way. ) Footwear RepairsWe no longer operate our own footwear repair workshop. However, we can confidently recommend Twigg Shoe Services, 22 Abbey St, Carlisle CA3 8TX, Tel 01228 515 654, for all your footwear repair and refurbishment work. Please send you repairs directly to Andy Twigg, at Twigg Shoe Services, detailing the work required and your preferred method of payment, remembering to include your return address. Repair prices are no higher than they were from our own workshop, and in some cases are lower. Price quotations are available in advance and the quality of work performed is second to none. After years of growing up with cheap throwaway footwear I now invest in decent shoes. I find the idea of resoling shoes facinating, and I'm looking forward to seeing the results that can be achieved. Thanks again for the suggestions so far, and the friendly welcome.

I only know this as Cupar is where i went to school and family still live up there and in your home town of Glenrothes. There was a good repairer in Cowdenbeath his name was Mr Legge his shop is on the left at the bottom of the High Street. Only thing is I know the shop is there but not sure if he still owns it.
