jimmy
hello I am having trouble sticking 1220 vibram units to danner boots currently using rehargol yellow and double glueing neoprene at a 75% success rate. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jimmy

Guest Klazykobbler
would that be this first and then some of this? i was talking to an ex cobbler last week about glues and techniques no longer used. He saw me using some rehag and mentioned i should be using a secondary primer. Would this be what he was getting at? would you use still use neoprene to bring the surfaces together? heat used at any point? hope the inline attacthments work! Michael
Try Bostik 6092...I've switched to this from neoprene and have found it excellent for everything but PVC
Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
All Primers of the newer type are better used as a wipe, not brushed on. The are neutralisers, not something that works with the Adhesive. The more Primer that is allowed to dry on the surface the less effect it will have. kobblers
Have to disagree with you there Hugh as we always brush our primers on. I also tend to prime twice on certain materials and we rarely get any returns. I saw something in Cutting Edge recently that said to only use rubber solution with Renia primers which is strange as I've been using 5050 with Renia for over 10 years Rick. discodave
sometimes i wipe thinners over then i always do the yellow first wait 15 minutes at least, although more like 2 hours/days as i forget. then if its not normal plastic a coat of green then one coat of multi colle or if it still dries patchy a second coat of multi colle although a second coat is very rare i only worked this out cos i couldnt remember what colour does what material so just started using em both, the only things this doesnt do is doc martens or some timberlands but the pro boots havent come back yet or the cat boots although ive only tried the heels so far to test this way just do a build up on the heel first then try and pull it off after a couple of hours or even the next morning (although again this is down to me being stoned probably and i have no idea whatsoever if you need to wait so long )
discodave
I always heat and press everything although i didnt have a press in my first shop and still didnt get much back just the toes coming away sometimes and the customer rarely noticed as i was redoing their heels. Guest Klazykobbler
awright now i'm completely confused ! might print this off and muck about with some old repairs and see for myself the results. when i've done docs i've used renia let it dry overnight , pta both surfaces ,let it dry for a couple of hours then heated both the boot and unit and gently pushed together . too much heat and it dont work, dont press it either. then leave alone and let cool for a long time before finishing. have never wiped on thinners or double primed . have tried renia with a rubber soloution before though, like others have used renia with 50/50 and pta+ ( dont think they are the same are they?) got an headache thinking about this going bed
