Transponder key enquiry.

Recommended Posts

A chap has just called the shop. He's lost the keys to his van. He's hoping to source a key from ebay and then get a cutter to cut the key but without an original.

I'm not sure if it is possible and it's not a service we offer. He is based in Haslingden.

Does anyone want his number to have a chat with him and possibly procure a sale from it?

He would need to btain the key code from the main dealer and maybe the immobilizer pin code depending on what van it is and what year etc....Once all that is available the key can be cut to code and programmed if it is chipped (although some manufacturers still cannot be programmed). Unfortunately we are in Ireland but hope this info helps a little.

Thanks for the info.

He's actually looking to do it on the cheap by using ebay, then a cutter then a programmer. I don't think it's going to be cost effective that way. I suggested using a professional which is why i'm looking around here.

Thanks.

He may find it dearer doing it his way, as many 2nd user fobs and chips cannot be reprogrammed to another vehicle at all, it all depends upon make model and year of van, he may be costing himself alot of unnecessary money, as many people end up with tat of flea bay that will not work.

do you know make year and model ?

either way it will require a visit to the van by someone with an ad100, unless he sends immobiliser box off to someone, either way it will be better than trusting ebay and cheaper long term

He's just rang to check on the progress!

It's a Citroen Berlingo, 52 plate. He has a card with a barcode on and a long number. He has now said that he can get the keys programmed for £35 by a dealer local to him. He just needs the keys now!

I don't want to keep ringing him or have him calling me as i'm of no use to him. Is there anyone close to Haslingden who can cut a key without an original?

I konker with rapid.....it's down to him to supply the key code and his "programmer" will deffo need the immobilizer pin code to program the key in the van. If he can't supply the key code as he doesn't want to go to main dealer then something possibly fishy. This is only way to get key code unless by some chance it's in all the docs that came with the van.

Thanks for the replies. I think the code he has is the PIN code.

As you suggest, there may be some fishy element to his request. I'll just tell him to go to the main dealer or find a shop more local.

Thanks again chaps.

This is only way to get key code.....

Unless the lock is sight read or impressioned for the cuts. :smt023

Yep, but only way to get the key code is from main dealer or possibly original docs. Impressioning or sight reading will allow you to cut the key but won't technically give you the manufacturers key code Tel, unless its a Tibbe?!! ](*,)

Huh hum... the Citroen Berlingo uses Simplex profile (SX9) with 5 cuts that are for both side B's

The key code is a direct code for the bitting less the prefix i.e. Code 9966221 = 66221

I have to agree with Terry 100% on this... sight read or impression the cuts for any car manufacturers lock and put the results into Instacode and it will give you the manufacturers key code (more recent models not yet on the system, excepted).....in the same way that the code will give you the cuts.... no trips to the dealer required at all...!!!

....although I'm not really sure why 'technically' you would need the 'code', if you already have the cuts?

....oh.... and to be pedantic; 'technically' a tibbe pick will not give you the manufacturers code either, only the cuts, as Ford Tibbe codes all begin with a 'T'. \:D/
