ironplanet uk900
I think grinding down pins, can work, but its a bodge, Attaching pins are very inexpensive, so why not use the right materials for the job. It makes life much easier, and is the correct way to do it. As for learnt to adapt...its more like learnt to make do. Just my opinion..............and I love to give it So come on give it me back http://www.shoerepairer.info/bb/viewtop ... 9088#29088

You couldn't possibly use the correct sized top piece on all heels, there are thousands of sizes and styles, and there is nothing wrong with trimming them.. but you already know that unless you really are a mug. Correct pinCorrect size of top piece or do you make do with getting universal pu top and trimming? Theres a massive difference between grinding the pin down and using the correct sized pin, which is just as available. Unless you're cutting it down on a lathe, you're never going to get the shaft round. so there for, the pin is only attached at its widest point inside the perfectly round tube. And the more chance of it falling off, and the more chance of splitting the heel. I can't see an argument, but then everyone aint as inteligent as me Im up for it today carry on! Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
To smmultiservices. The original Vulkalon tops or sheets whatever you stocked at the time still melted when trimmed. I had several burning to various parts of my hand. arms and face. And I trimmed all mine on a cutter that was sharpened twice a day, no scouring on a Spira band. They did wear well but the trimming aspect gave rise to use only as a last resort. (or if you wanted acustomer never to come back if the size was over or near 1". keithm
Vulkalon melting on a sharp cutter? I find that unbelievable, it shouldn't be getting that hot for it to melt? As far as scouring is concerned, I can understand it if the band was not quite new

As far as scouring is concerned, I can understand it if the band was not quite new After trimming around 200 pairs by lunchtime the cutter started to lose its edge, hence the meltdown and the need to sharpen the cutter, of change it as we sharpened 4 for the day just in case we needed them.
