if you're gonna use a bandsaw to cut through a shoe the for safety reasons you should make yourself a jig to push it through.

this is easily done with a block of wood put inside the shoe (or the forepart of a wooden shoe tree) with a handle sticking out of the heel area to help to guide it through, similar to the picture below. you should always set your guide/guard support as low as possible too to prevent drift and make sure that the tension is at the maximum possible for the blade you're using.

Problem no1 is that the top guide is fixed for safety and yet the shoe has an undulaing surface.

Problem no2 is that the jig will not hold the shoe ridgid enough, I have tried it rick and even used wooden shoe lasts with an extension to hold. It's ok if there is no shank. A 6" fence is worthwhile but even this has limitations when the sole is uneven.

A push stick is a must, even 2 of them. I used chain mail gloves borrowed from the butcher. (from a butcher to a butcher)

Still blooming dangerous.
