Some RS232 (serial) to USB adaptors can be a bit temperamental based on the chipset inside so you may have to try more than one if you encounter any issues that aren’t solved after playing with the drivers and settings.

I’m assuming your laptop doesn’t have a serial port so you’re using an USB to serial adaptor.

When you plugged in your USB to serial adaptor and installed the driver, did is say which com port number it was assigning to the adaptor cable? If not, you can look it up under Device Manager then COMS & LPT.

Then in Instacode under setup and machines see if the com port number matches the one assigned to the USB adaptor. You may have to re-add your machine if it doesn’t let you select the correct com port but if the USB to Serial adaptor is installed correctly it should be listed in the dropdown.

If your laptop does have a serial port and you’re using that, it similarly may need configuring.
