mathews
In the process of recommissioning our machines. Our Whitfield machines are painted in what seems to be Hammerite mid green as seen here And our Standard machines seem to be painted in Hammerite light blue Trouble is I can't seem to find anyone in the UK that sells Hammerite in these colours anymore. Standard seem to still use the light blue but Hammerite don't have it listed on their site. I'd like to give everything a fresh coat of light blue paint. Does anyone know who may be able to supply this? Any tips on how to get a good finish? Cheers, Mathews
Lee
They don't use hammerite if Keith or Peter don't reply before im at work I have an original colour chart at work with the paint makers name. if you just want to colour match with standard paint take a peice of the machine and take it into your DIY supplier who will put it in a machine and give you a pot of paint the same. I did this to paint a treadle the same colour as a sewing machine I brought and the finish was spot on. in terms of best finish as with all painting its in the preparation. I was once told if something looks good enough not to paint it will look good after you've painted it.
petercoulson
We really use hammerite much now but have you looked into B&Q or similar and their selection? http://www.diy.com/search/results/?question=hammerite Also the paint you have may be fairly old and faded so not looking the same any more
mathews
That's a good point re the paint fading because now I'm at work having taken a second look you're right. The Whitfield machines started out the same colour as the Standard ones but as the paint is so old they have gone a bit green. B&Q don't list any hammered paint in light blue. I'd like the paint to be close to the original hammered thinner resistant stuff. Lee when you have time to dig that chart out it will be very much appreciated, nothing better than buying it to code from the original manufacturer. Lee
Find attached the original 1992 Cromadex colour chart I had when I was buying my machine from Whitfield Wylies, I also had an outsoler painted the same colour from Standard a few years after (2002 ish), so Keith may be able to supply you paint??? Anyway, at least it gives you a direction of investigation, sadly being pre-internet world, there are no details for Courtaulds coatings on the paint chart, but who knows what an internet search will find. My machines a N1160 which I think at the time was whitfields standard hammer blue finish. Lee paintchart006.pdf

mathews
Lee you are a legend mate now I'm spoilt for choice. N1100 is our stitchers. Cant work out whether the finisher and press is a N1110 or N1130. What do I do what do I do? What's your favourite colour out of them three boys? Lee
I'd find an outlet & check they can still mix it first. I like N1160, but then I've been staring at it for decades! lol
mathews
I'v decided on N1110 for us. Now I've seen it on the desktop I know that hint of green is what we've been staring at for how many years. It's more relaxed than the light blue on the stitcher, looks like a proper machine, you got to give it to Whitfield and because the colour already looks a bit dirty means it will still look its best for a damn good while. Now who's going to mix it up!
mathews
All I'm going to need now is a new motor. Any suggestions for THE BEST quality motor manufacturer, strong, reliable and quite! And I'm not talking about classic Mercs.
