LockandKey
Just to clarify for you Mick, I have had an Abus direct account for over 10 years ever since i took on my pfaffenhain section with them, there was also and understanding that i could purchase any product from them direct BUT only if it was NOT a stocked item with any of the uk wholesalers. This is no longer case and they will supply any product direct if you spend enough to warrant this happening. This is why some Abus products can be sold so cheaply on the likes of Amazon and other internet sites as it is no longer a level playing field anymore. If I wanted to buy 5,000 keys cut from 'grahamparker' would he offer me a better price? Yes I'd say he would? - so if I want to buy £50K bulk from the source, and offer support for the product in my country - I guess the only hurdle would be the £50k in the bank? Funny how you all want to pay less for petrol, beer, lager & baked beans on the same principle - but when it's your shop, the rules of scale & economics should change to suit your world as now it's personal! We have 5 patented keys already - we are taking on another patent profile to our business from Assa Abloy, but it's nothing to do with their wholesale prices of padlocks... if I want to buy Assa or Abus or Ifam or Tesa etc - they are happy to talk if the volume is high enough. grahamparker
But without the wholesalers you would never have grown into the company that you are now. I understand the economics, but whats to stop Abus or others finding out who your customers are and then offering to supply them direct ?. Never happen ?, it already is. Without wholesalers your company would probably have struggled to grow into the size you are now. Lock Stock

Graham - the answer is really simple.... how would they know who my customers are if they only ship to me? Mick - when the manufacturers send in their big guns to press the flesh, and you can order 50k stock of one range/brand then you are in the factory chain. It doesn't devalue smaller companies down the chain - our prices are not aimed at undercutting anyone, unless someone wants to buy 50+ units. I have zero interest in selling a single unit for less than anyone else - if fact I refuse/reject orders that just want 'cheapest' as we offer professional advice and support before purchase and years after purchase - which is something many customers still value and will pay for. Example today I took a call for a guy wanted a 1930 nightlatch and a 213 deadlock - with extra keys for both. Amazon is selling the ERA 1930 £5 cheaper than my cost price with free delivery and not including the 14% Amazon fees - they are £32 I'm £47 the 213 deadlock I was the cheapest and making +50% and he added 4 extra keys. The difference was he could talk to a locksmith on the phone - and not some brick walled digital shop that only sells boxes by product codes. I totally understand the customer - he can buy for £15 less (2 hours toil) the same item. But he can't talk to the cheapest vendor as they don't know the difference between a 1930 or a box of Andrex.
