Gravostyle5 Halftones Question

Recommended Posts

Right now we send photographs out to be engraved. It would be cost saving to be able to do them ourselves. I was working through a tutorial on engraving photographs using GravoStyle5. When it came time to apply the suggested halftone "Weston-Knight" to my .bmp photograph, I noticed this was not an option. There were several other choices but no "Weston-Knight".

Does anyone know of a place I can download alternate halftones for GravoStyle5 and then where do I put them?

Alternately, one of our computers can open PhotoLase/PhotoStyle but the other cannot? Is there a particular reason why this would happen? They both run fully licensed copies of GravoStyle5. The one that it cannot open has 98, 5100, 5200 and 5300, but none will open PhotoLase/PhotoStyle. The one it can open on has only 98 and 5200.

Thank you.

can i ask what you are enrgaving in the way of photos?

i compared gravostyle and metaza last year at one of the shows and gravostyle got HUMPED

3 min job on metaza turned out great 12 min job on gravograph software and it was ####.(gravo tecs did the job)

ive got both machines and softwares for photo engraving and NEVER use G5.

Unless you have found the holy grail in a way to engrave photos on gravostyle (which it sounds like you havent) i feel you are wasting your time(i have been there too)

the sad thing about this is gravograph aint gonna come back and tell us different(and im not talking about laser machines)

carry on!

I am in the US. I am not sure Metaza even deals with us. We do have EngraveLab software that we have not incorporated yet. I am wondering if that is the route to go with it. I don't think my boss is ready to get new lasers because he just bought a sandblaster. One new toy at a time. ;)

The information on trying to engrave photos came from the Knowledge Base on GravoGraph's website:

it is the Holy Grail and its not achievable with Gravostyle anything!

I spent sometime looking at this again for you and i have both G98 and G5 and both of them have Weston-Knight as a halftone

unless you have a very plain photo and its not too busy you are wasting your time trying to engrave this

carry on!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have found the Holy Grail then.

Using both the 25W and the 30W machines, I achieved success with the 30W but haven't had the time to perfect the settings on the 25W.

I used Photoshop to halftone the image so I would have more control.

I imported the image into Gravograph5.

The material I used was: Anodized Aluminum

Settings:

30 W:

Power – 20

Speed – 50

DPI – 600
