thanks , what had happened whoever had won it last year badly damaged it . scratched lost pins. the leg had been snapped of the back ,they must have been pished and dropped it

 

anyway took all the plates of it sanded the lumps and stained it with shoe edge brown ink varnished it and made up a new leg, and polished the silver parts

and now looks new,

also saves me trying to get all thye side shiels evenly spaced and straight

a new shield would have been easier just engrave all the side shields again

historic value, could you imagine the up roar if an engraver bungled the Wimbledon trophy, replaced it & said "A new one was easier" I think a repair & freshen up was spot on.
